CPL (Commercial pilot license )

The Commercial Pilot License gives the holder the ability to accept compensation [pay] for flying aircraft. The night rating is normally part of the commercial pilot’s course, but other ratings such as multi-engine and instrument rating may be added to the commercial pilot’s license. The flight instructor’s rating requires a commercial pilot’s license.


  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age for issuance of Commercial Pilot License
  • Applicant must hold a Category 1 Medical
  • Applicant must hold a Private Pilot License



  • 80 hours of ground school must be completed
  • At least 60% obtained on a written exam on the following subjects [60% required in each subject]
  • Air Law
  • Navigation
  • Meteorology
  • General Knowledge

  • At least 200 hours flight experience including:

  • 100 hours pilot in command (solo)
  • 20 hours cross-country pilot in command
  • 65 hours flight training
  • 35 hours dual (with instructor)
  • 5 hours night
  • 2 hours night cross-country
  • 30 hours solo including:
  • A cross-country flight 300 nautical miles from point of departure with at least 3 full-stop landings other than the point of departure
  • 5 hours night
  • 10 night circuits
  • Student must successfully complete a Commercial Pilot Flight Test

Solo Flying 30
Simulator Training 10
Ground School 80
Ground Briefing 10
